Mobutu Sese Seko

Mobutu Sese Seko, born Joseph-Désiré Mobutu in 1930, was a politician, journalist, and military personnel who served as President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He held the rank of marshal and was a member of the Popular Movement of the Revolution. His citizenship included the Republic of the Congo (Léopoldville) and Zaire. He spoke Lingala, French, and Ngbandi and was affiliated with the Catholic Church.

He participated in the Congo Crisis, Shaba II, the Chadian–Libyan War, and the Angolan Civil War. His notable works include *Recueil des discours et harangues prononcés par le président de la république*, *Ecrits journalistiques*, *Bilan et perspectives*, *Le Président Mobutu vous parle*, and *Les grands textes du mobutisme*. He received the Order of Propitious Clouds, Order of the Golden Ark, and Order of Prince Henry. He died of prostate cancer in 1997 in Rabat, where he is buried.
