組織發展(organization development,OD)興起於公元1940年代，主要推動者是李文(Kurt Lewin)教授。組織發展融會相關學科知識，提出組織是應現代社會環境快速變遷的因應技術，及「干預技術」(interventions)。組織發展理論的源起，一方面是因為組織得適應不斷變遷的環境，而強調「計畫變遷」策略的運用，和實現組織目標的大前提之下，可以提供個人自我實現的機會，讓個人目標、組織目標互相協調。另一方面則是由於受到李文教授所領導的「實驗室訓練法」、「調查研究和回輸方法」兩項衝擊。
