Paul Reuter

Paul Reuter (1816–1899) was a journalist, writer, publisher, and entrepreneur. Born in Kassel with the birth name Israel Beer Josaphat, he held citizenship in the Electorate of Hesse and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He worked in Berlin and London and was the owner of Reuters. Reuter was ennobled, receiving the title of Freiherr, or baron. He spoke German, Yiddish, and English. His religious background included Judaism and the Protestant church, with a significant event noted as religious conversion. He died in Nice and is buried in West Norwood Cemetery.
