Quotes

  • The Man with the Child in His Eyes is still one of those things, which right from the get-go … has its own life, because it's just a great song. … For all the time that she or I or anyone spend decorating and creating moods, its actually the key element of what your saying, the melody and the chords which still speak louder than all the stuff around, on a great song.
  • Creativity comes from the freedom to fail. And freedom to fail comes from experimentation, and that's what gives something its individuality. And, you know, I think her courage, which is the positive way of interpreting it, or bloody-mindedness, which is the negative, is part of what gives her real value as an artist.
  • It's extraordinary what that song has been used for — I think a lot of people who have gotten into trouble, have attached themselves to that song, and I think a lot of it is Kate's wonderful voice is there, in a sort of reassuring and loving way, and it just makes them think that perhaps there is going to be that type of love out there for them.
  • Climbing up on Solsbury Hill,I could see the city light.Wind was blowing, time stood still.Eagle flew out of the night. He was something to observe.Came in close, I heard a voice.Standing stretching every nerve,Had to listen had no choice.I did not believe the information.I just had to trust imagination. My heart going boom boom boom."Son," he said, "Grab your things, I've come to take you home."

Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and human rights activist. He came to prominence as the original frontman of the rock band Genesis. He left the band in 1975 and launched his solo career with a hit debut single entitled "Solsbury Hill". After Gabriel released four successful studio albums (all entitled Peter Gabriel), his fifth studio album, So (1986), became his best-selling release; it is certified triple platinum in the UK and five times platinum in the US. The album's most successful single, "Sledgehammer", won a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards. A 2011 Time report said "Sledgehammer" was the most played music video of all time on MTV.

Gabriel released Us (1992), OVO (2000), and Up (2002), the latter marking his last solo album for 21 years. Gabriel recorded the song "Down to Earth" for the Pixar film WALL-E (2008), recorded the cover album of other artists' songs Scratch My Back (2010), and developed the cover album of his own works by other artists And I'll Scratch Yours (2013). He embarked on the Back to Front Tour (2012–14), and the Rock Paper Scissors Tour with Sting (2016). Gabriel eventually released his solo album I/O (2023) by the lunar cycle, and supported it with I/O The Tour that year. Gabriel has been releasing songs to the lunar cycle for the follow-up album O\I (2026).
