Herpetologie Phrynopus is een geslacht van kikkers uit de familie Craugastoridae. De soort werd voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door Wilhelm Peters in 1873.[1] Er zijn 28 soorten waarvan er twee pas in 2015 voor het eerst wetenschappelijk zijn beschreven. Hierdoor is veel literatuur over deze groep niet eenduidig. ==Taxonomy== The contents and phylogenetic position of Phrynopus have long been uncertain, and many species once included in this genus have now been moved to other genera (Bryophryne, Lynchius, Isodactylus (now Hypodactylus), Noblella, Niceforonia, and Psychrophrynella). Hedges and colleagues placed it in 2008 in the family Strabomantidae, subfamily Strabomantinae.
