Pierre Bouguer

Pierre Bouguer (1698–1758) was a French explorer, mathematician, physicist, and astronomer. Born in Le Croisic and a citizen of the Kingdom of France, he worked in the fields of physics, astronomy, geodesy, and hydrography. He was a student of Jean Jacques Dortous de Mayran and served as an employee of the French Academy Sciences. Bouguer was also a member of the Royal Society, for which he received the award of Fellow of the Royal Society.

His notable works include the Beer–Lambert law, the French Geodesic Missions, and the Bouguer anomaly. He authored several texts, including *Figure de la Terre*, *Essai d'optique Sur la Gradation de la Lumière...*, *Traité d'optique Sur la Gradation de la Lumière*, *Nouveau Traité de Navigation, Contenant la Théorie et la Pratique du Pilotage*, and *Traité du Navire, de Sa Construction et de Ses Mouvemens*. Bouguer died in Paris on August 15, 1758.
