Der Sternmotor ist eine Bauform des Hubkolben-Verbrennungsmotors, bei der mehrere Motorzylinder sternförmig radial um die Kurbelwelle herum angeordnet sind. Sternmotoren arbeiten überwiegend nach dem Viertakt-Ottoverfahren, aber auch Diesel- oder Zweitaktmotoren oder Kombinationen dieser Bauweisen sind möglich. Sie finden vorwiegend Verwendung als Luftfahrtantriebe. Üblich sind bei diesen Motoren feststehende Gehäuse und eine rotierende Kurbelwelle, es wurden aber auch Umlaufmotoren gebaut, bei denen die Kurbelwelle stillsteht und der Zylinderstern rotiert.
