Ralph Flanders

Ralph Edward Flanders was an American politician, engineer, writer, and businessperson. A member of the Republican Party, he served as a United States senator and held the position of president. His professional background included work in mechanical engineering and politics, with a primary work location in Washington, D.C. He was also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Born in Barnet in 1880, Flanders died in Springfield in 1970. He is buried in Vermont. He was married to Helen Hartness Flanders and spoke English. His religious affiliation was with the Congregational churches. He received the Hoover Medal during his career.

Flanders authored fifteen works, including *Reorganization plan no. 3 of 1947* and *Transportation -- the future of New England and the port of Boston*.
