Richard Lerner

Richard Alan Lerner was an American chemist, biochemist, novelist, and university teacher. Born in Chicago in 1938, he was educated at Stanford University, Northwestern University, and the Stanford University School of Medicine. He worked as an employee of Scripps Research and resided in La Jolla and Jupiter Island.

Lerner was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. He received the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, the William B. Coley Award, the Wolf Prize in Chemistry, and the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize. He wrote in English and had twenty-one works listed in the Open Library, including *Vaccines 87* and *BlackBoard*. He died in San Diego on December 2, 2021.
