Robert Ezra Park

Robert Ezra Park was an American sociologist, criminologist, writer and university teacher, born on 14 February 1864 in Harveyville. He was educated at Harvard University, the University of Michigan, Heidelberg University and the University of Strasbourg, earning a doctorate under advisors Wilhelm Windelband and Alfred Hettner. His own doctoral student was Roderick Duncan McKenzie, and his field of work was sociology.

Park was employed by Michigan State University, the University of Chicago, Tuskegee University and Fisk University, and was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, being recognised in the American Academy Arts Sciences collection. His works include Race and Culture, Masse und Publikum, Introduction to the Science of Sociology, Old World Traits Transplanted and Racial Assimilation in Secondary Groups. His child was Robert H. Park, and Park died on 7 February 1944 in Nashville.
