Romano Prodi

Romano Prodi is an Italian economist, politician, businessperson, and university teacher born in Scandiano in 1939. He has held the positions of Prime Minister of Italy and President of the European Commission. His professional career includes teaching at the University of Bologna and Harvard University, and he is interested in economics. He speaks and writes in Italian.

Prodi was educated at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Harvard University. He is a member of the Democratic Party, Christian Democracy, Italian People's Party, and The Olive Tree. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He has received the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, the Steiger Award, and the Decoration for Exceptional Merits. Prodi is Catholic and has two children. He worked in Rome and was a candidate in the 1996 Italian general election.
