Sadao Watanabe (渡辺貞夫) is Japan's most famous saxophone player. Born February 1st, 1933, in Utsunomiya in the Tochigi prefecture of Japan, Watanabe began playing the alto sax after moving to Tokyo at the age of 18. He went on to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1962 to 1965. He plays both alto and soprano saxophone, and has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Chico Hamilton, Gary Peacock, Chic Corea and Kikuchi Masabumi.
