Scott Lynch

Lynch’s debut novel, The Lies of Locke Lamora , was acquired by Simon Spanton at Orion Books in August 2004 and released in June 2006. Prior work included various positions: dishwasher, busboy, server, web designer, office manager, prep cook, and freelance writer. His second and third novels appeared in 2007 and 2013 respectively, forming part of the Gentleman Bastard Sequence series. He identifies as “your standard-issue geek-of-all-trades” with interests in history, literature, films, vintage computing, gaming, and game design. He collects vintage Choose Your Own Adventure books and Infocom text adventure games. Between 2005-2016, he served as a paid-on-call firefighter for New Richmond, Wisconsin. Married to SF/F novelist Elizabeth Bear in October 2016. They reside in western Massachusetts with four cats and two Icelandic horses. Scott Lynch was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1978, the first of three brothers. Early in life he worked as a dishwasher, a waiter, a graphic designer, an office manager, a cook, and a game supplement self-publisher before accidentally selling his first novel, The Lies of Locke Lamora, in 2004. From 2005 to 2016 Scott also served as a paid-on-call firefighter in Wisconsin. Scott currently lives in Massachusetts with his wife, award-winning SF/F novelist Elizabeth Bear, plus four cats (Duncan, Gurney, Molly, and Fafhrd) and a pair of Icelandic horses (a gelding named Ormr and a mare named Spola).
