Als Festkörperlaser werden optisch angeregte Laser bezeichnet, deren verstärkendes (aktives) Medium aus einem kristallinen oder glasartigen (amorphen) Festkörper besteht. In diesem sog. Wirtsmaterial oder Wirtskristall sind in bestimmter Konzentration (Dotierung) die laseraktiven Ionen enthalten. Festkörperlaser werden mit sichtbarem Licht oder Infrarotstrahlung gepumpt.
