Marie-Henri Beyle, known by the pseudonym Stendhal, was a French writer, autobiographer, diarist, and biographer. Born in Grenoble on January 23, 1783, he died in Paris on March 23, 1842, from a stroke. He is buried at Montmartre Cemetery. His native language was French, and he was associated with the movements of literary realism and Romanticism.
