Die Tatra Trucks a.s. ist ein tschechischer Automobilhersteller mit Sitz in Kopřivnice. Tatra ist einer der ältesten Automobilhersteller. Bekanntheit erlangte Tatra durch die Entwicklung des Zentralrohrrahmens sowie besonders durch aerodynamische Modelle wie den Tatra 77 und den Tatra 87 mit luftgekühltem Heckmotor. Diese technischen Entwicklungen gelten unter anderem auch als Grundlage für den späteren Volkswagen Käfer. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde Tatra verstaatlicht; planwirtschaftliche Prozesse versuchten, Tatra den Pkw-Bau zu verbieten, um die Kapazitäten der Tatra-Werke vermehrt für geländegängige Lastkraftwagen zu nutzen. In der Zwischenzeit ergab sich in internationalen Regierungskreisen ein Mangel an repräsentativen Limousinen, so dass 1956 der Tatra 603 entwickelt wurde. Mit dem Tatra 700 kam 1996 der letzte Personenwagen auf den Markt, der letzte lief 1999 vom Band. Seither werden bei Tatra nur noch Lastkraftfahrzeuge hergestellt, die auch am Africa Eco Race oder der Rallye Dakar teilnehmen. Nach zahlreichen Eigentümerwechseln gehört Tatra zur Czechoslovak Group.
