Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Chicago

Ukrainian Greek Catholics are the largest church of the 23 Catholic Churches that observe an Eastern rite. There are approximately 16 million Eastern Catholics in the world, of which 7 million are Ukrainian Greek Catholics. Approximately 50,000 Ukrainian Greek Catholics live in the United States and are a community that is diverse geographically, linguistically, and socioeconomically. On July 14, 1961, Pope John XXIII signed a Papal Bull establishing the Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago to serve and unite the rapidly growing numbers of organized Ukrainian Greek Catholics in the Midwest and West. With God’s providence, the Eparchy has overcome challenges and embraced opportunities to expand to 43 parishes and missions in the Western United States. In 2017, Bishop Benedict Aleksiychuk was named the fifth Bishop of the St. Nicholas Eparchy. Since his arrival, he has taken bold steps to strengthen the involvement of the faithful in the Eparchy’s spiritual, administrative and financial programs. This includes forming the Stewardship Committee to initiate a major fundraising effort to help sustain the long-term viability of the Eparchy and our parishes. The Stewardship Committee was formed to oversee the fundraising campaign and to help establish fundraising and stewardship capabilities for the Eparchy. The following members of the Eparchy were appointed to serve on the committee: Marta Borodayko, Orysia Drohomyrecka, Marta Fuoco, Lev Holubec, Oksana Jackiw, Greg Karawan, Vitaliy Kokor, Natalia Kokorudz, Yulia Komar, George Matwyshyn, Dr. Iouri Melnyk, Khrystyna Musiy, Lesia Palcan, Roxolana Poluchowicz, Nestor Popowych, Ihor Pryma, Dr. Andrew Ripecky, Luba Skubiak, Oleh Skubiak and Ihor Terletsky.
