Uster is een gemeente en plaats in het Zwitserse kanton Zürich, en maakt deel uit van het district Uster. Uster telde in 2012 ruim 33.000 inwoners. In Uster bevindt zich het SwissJazzOrama, een museum en omvangrijk muziekarchief over jazz uit Zwitserland en erbuiten. Op 9 mei 1985 kwam het betonnen plafond van het overdekte zwembad naar beneden waarbij 12 mensen om het leven kwamen. De hoofdoorzaak was corrosie van de ophangconstructie van het het plafond. De gebruikte roestvaststalen (RVS) ankers waren gebroken door scheurvormende spanningscorrosie. Van het gebruikte soort RVS is thans bekend dat het snel en sterk wordt aangetast door de relatief hoge chloorconcentratie van de lucht van zwembadhallen.
