Victor Meyer

Victor Meyer was a German chemist, inventor, and university teacher born in Berlin in 1848. He studied at Heidelberg University and the Friedrichswerder Gymnasium under the doctoral advisor Robert Bunsen. His professional work focused on chemistry and analytical chemical techniques, and he was based in Heidelberg. Meyer authored three works, including *Tabellen zur qualitativen Analyse* and *Unterschiedliche Reaktionen genetisch verschiedener Rattenstämme auf die Implantation von Walker-Carcinom-256*.

He received the Davy Medal and was an honorary member of several institutions, including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences, the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His doctoral students included Max Bodenstein, Jocelyn Field Thorpe, Emil Knoevenagel, and Heinrich Biltz. Meyer died in Heidelberg in 1897 from cyanide poisoning.
