Een vortex of wervel is een draaiende beweging in een fluïdum. Een vortex kan twee- of driedimensionaal zijn. Tweedimensionele zijn stabiel, terwijl driedimensionele zijn. Vortices kunnen voorkomen als een mono-, bi- of tripolaire wervel.
