Wendell Berry

Wendell Berry is an American poet, novelist, writer and farmer, born on 5 August 1934 in Henry County. He was educated at Stanford University and the University of Kentucky, and has been employed by New York University and the University of Kentucky. He is a Protestant and lives in Louisville.

Berry has been influenced by Thomas Jefferson, Virgil, Henry David Thoreau and William Carlos Williams. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, recognised in the American Academy Arts Sciences collection, and has received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Humanities Medal, the Jefferson Lecture and the Thomas Merton Award. He has written 280 works, including American Earth and Andy Catlett.
