Wilhelm Hemprich

Wilhelm Hemprich, born Friedrich Wilhelm Hemprich in 1796 in Kłodzko, was a Prussian explorer, zoologist, ornithologist, and naturalist. He was educated at the University of Wrocław and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he was also employed. His professional affiliations included membership in the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He worked alongside Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg, with whom he co-authored significant works such as *Symbolae physicae*, *Hemprich und Ehrenberg*, and *De inflammationis notione*.

Hemprich died in Massawa on June 30, 1825. His contributions to zoology are cited under the author citation "Hemprich." His collection items are held at the Museum für Naturkunde - Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Science, the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin, the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, and the National Museum of Natural History. He is described in sources including the *Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie* and the *Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary*.
