Xanthokon ist ein selten vorkommendes Mineral aus der Mineralklasse der „Sulfide und Sulfosalze“. Es kristallisiert im monoklinen Kristallsystem mit der Zusammensetzung Ag3AsS3, ist also chemisch gesehen ein Silber-Arsen-Sulfid. Xanthokon entwickelt meist tafelige, leistenförmige Kristalle von pomeranzengelber Farbe, aber auch traubige, nierenförmige oder radialstrahlige Mineral-Aggregate von dunkelkarminroter bis nelkenbraun Farbe. Auf der Strichtafel hinterlässt Xanthokon einen charakteristisch gelben Strich.
