Yakov Eliashberg

Yakov Eliashberg is a mathematician, university teacher, and academic born in 1946 in Saint Petersburg. He holds citizenship in Russia, the Soviet Union, and the United States. His professional work focuses on topology, symplectic geometry, and mathematics. He is employed by Stanford University, where he also works.

Eliashberg has received the Guggenheim Fellowship, Crafoord Prize, Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry, and Heinz Hopf Prize. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Mathematical Society. He studied under doctoral advisor Vladimir Abramovich Rokhlin and supervised doctoral student John Pardon. His Erdős number is 3.

He speaks English and Russian. His name in his native language is Яков Матвеевич Элиашберг. One of his recognized works is titled Symplectic, Poisson, and Noncommutative Geometry.
