Aleksander Fredro

Aleksander Fredro was a Polish poet, writer, playwright, and politician born in Surochów in 1793. He was a member of the House of Fredro and held citizenship in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Austrian Empire, and Austria–Hungary. His native language was Polish, and he also spoke German. Fredro began his work period in 1818, contributing to fields of fiction and comedy, with notable works including Zemsta, Wiersze, Dożywocie, Śluby panieńskie, and Komedje.

He received the Legion of Honour and was described by sources such as the Svensk uppslagsbok and the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary. Fredro was a member of the Academy of Learning, the Warsaw Society of Friends of Learning, and Towarzystwo Naukowe Krakowskie. He was influenced by Andrzej Maksymilian Fredro. Fredro died in Lviv in 1876. He had children named Zofia Szeptycka and Jan Aleksander Fredro.
