Hans Gude

Hans Gude was a Norwegian painter and university teacher born in Christiania in 1825. He specialized in landscape painting and is noted for his work *Bridal Procession on the Hardangerfjord*. Gude studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the Academy of Arts, Berlin, and the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. His professional career included teaching positions at the Berlin University of the Arts, Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe, and the Academy of Arts, Berlin. He also worked in Düsseldorf.

Gude died in Berlin in 1903 and was buried at Vår Frelsers gravlund. He received the Royal Order of the Polar Star and was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. His students included Charlotte von Krogh, Morten Müller, Stanislaus von Kalckreuth, and Christian Krohg. He had two children, Nils Gude and Ove Gude.
