Charles Sawyers

Charles Sawyers is an American oncologist, physician, and university teacher born in Nashville in 1959. He holds a Doctor of Medicine degree and was educated at Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of California, San Francisco. His professional work focuses on oncology, leukemia, prostate cancer, and medicine. He has worked at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with work locations in Princeton and New York City.

Sawyers is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Medicine, and New York Academy of Medicine. He has received the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences, the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award, the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award, and the Scheele Award. He is recognized in the American Academy Arts Sciences collection. His notable works include *From the Inside Out* and *Therapeutic Kinase Inhibitors*. He speaks English.
