David Slepian

David Slepian (1923–2007) was an American mathematician, computer scientist, engineer, and university teacher. Born in Pittsburgh, he served in World War II. He was educated at the University of Paris, Harvard University, and the University of Michigan. His professional career included positions at Bell Labs and the University of Hawaiʻi System.

Slepian was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He received the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal, the IEEE Fellow distinction, and the Claude E. Shannon Award. He is recognized in the American Academy Arts Sciences collection. His father was Joseph Slepian. Slepian died in Arlington.
