Didi Kempot merupakan putra dari pelawak terkenal dari kota Solo, Ranto Edi Gudel (Almarhum) yang lebih dikenal dengan nama mbah Ranto. Dia bersaudara dengan Mamiek Podang, pelawak senior Srimulat.
