Dominick Argento

Dominick Argento was an American composer and university teacher. Born in York in 1927, he studied at the Eastman School of Music and the Peabody Institute. He served as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota and was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His primary genre was opera, and he played the piano.

Argento received a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He died in Minneapolis in 2019. His works are recognized in the Pulitzer Prize collection. He spoke English and was associated with contemporary classical music in the United States.
