Drew Gilpin Faust

Drew Gilpin Faust, born Catharine Drew Gilpin on 18 September 1947 in New York City, is an American historian and university teacher. She was educated at Bryn Mawr College, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy, and works in the history of the Southern United States, the American Civil War, and women's history. Faust was employed by the University of Pennsylvania, Radcliffe College, and Harvard University, where she held the position of President of Harvard University. She married Charles E. Rosenberg and is related to Lawrence Tyson and Jonathan Edwards.

She received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Bancroft Prize, and the Jefferson Lecture, was named to the Time 100, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for History. She belongs to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
