Drew Gilpin Faust

Drew Gilpin Faust, born Catharine Drew Gilpin in New York City in 1947, is an American historian and university teacher. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree and has worked at the University of Pennsylvania, Radcliffe College, and Harvard University. Her academic focus includes the history of the Southern United States, the American Civil War, and women's history. She served as the President of Harvard University and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.

Faust is the author of works such as *The Missing of the Somme*, *Brokenburn*, *Dixie Redux*, *Mingling Promiscuously*, and *Coming to Terms with Scarlet*. She has received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Jefferson Lecture, the Bancroft Prize, and a spot on the Time 100 list. She was also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for History. She resides in Cambridge and Clarke County and is married to Charles E. Rosenberg.
