Etimonotrysia Palaephatoidea Tischerioidea Ditrysia Monofiletyzm Eulepidoptera jest silnie wspierany w analizach morfologicznych i molekularnych. Zarówno analiza morfologiczna Kristensena z 2003 roku[2] jak i genetyczne Mutanena i innych z 2010[4] oraz Reigera i innych z 2015 roku wspierają podział Eulepidoptera na dwa klady: pierwszy obejmuje Andesianoidea i Adeloidea, a drugi Palaephatidae, tyszerkowate i Ditrysia[3]. Pierwszy określany jest jako Incurvariina[1]. Drugi dzieli się na dwie grupy siostrzane: Ditrysia i Etimonotrysia (Palaephatoidea+Tischerioidea)[1][3][4]. W 2009 roku Simonsen zwrócił jednak uwagę na cechy pokrycia skrzydeł, które mogą być synapomorfią łączącą Andesianoidea z tyszerkowatymi i Ditrysia[5]. Reigerowi i współpracownikom nie udało się całkowicie wykluczyć możliwości, że Andesianoidea są grupą siostrzaną dla Ditrysia+Palaephatoidea+Tischerioidea, a nie dla Adeloidea[3]. The evolutionary success of this clade is often attributed to its adaptability, co-evolution with flowering plants, and complex life cycles. Eulepidoptera was formally described by Kiriakoff in 1948 and remains a central focus in lepidopteran systematics and biodiversity research.
