Such examples include biotite-rich zones, amphibolite-calcite-scapolite alteration and other unusual skarn assemblages. The process is called fenitization.

The type locality for fenite is the Fen Complex (Norwegian: Fensfeltet) in Nome, Telemark, Norway.
