Длина тела около 5 мм, размах ног достигает 15 мм. Тонкие волоски покрывают их ноги, создавая гидрофобную поверхность[9]. Средние ноги, используемые для обычной гребли, несут развитую бахромку из длинных щетинок на голенях и лапках, чтобы увеличить силу тяги при движении[10]. Halobates are generally very abundant where they are found.
==Discovery== They were first collected by Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz, a doctor who was part of a Russian expedition aboard the Rurik between 1815 and 1818.
