Ilya Grubert is a Latvian classical violinist. He has won Paganini Competition and Tchaikovsky Competition in 1978. Born in Riga, Grubert began his studies at the Emil Darzins School of Music. He has studied under Yuri Yankelevich and Zinaida Gilels, and then under Leonid Kogan at the Moscow Conservatory. He earned his first international success at the Sibelius Competition in 1975.
