Ivan Shishkin

Ivan Shishkin was a male painter, printmaker, and visual artist from the Russian Empire. Born in Yelabuga in 1831, he studied at the First Kazan Male Gymnasium, the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and the Imperial Academy of Arts. He worked as a graphic artist specializing in landscape painting and was associated with the realism movement. Shishkin was employed by the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts and received the Order of Saint Stanislaus.

He died in Saint Petersburg in 1898 and is buried at Smolenskoye Orthodox Cemetery and Tikhvin Cemetery. His notable work includes *Morning in a Pine Forest*. His works are held in the collections of the Finnish National Gallery, the Tatarstan State Museum of Fine Arts, the Bashkir State Art Museum, and the Donetsk Regional Museum of Art. He spoke Russian and is described in sources such as the Nordisk familjebok and the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary.
