Jacob Praetorius the Elder (born around 1520 in Magdeburg; died 1586 in Hamburg) was a German organist and composer. Little is known about Praetorius' life. He probably received lessons from Martin Agricola in his hometown. From 1555 until his death, Praetorius is documented as organist and church composer at two Hamburg churches.
