ژاک یول

Jacques Ellul (1912–1994) was a French theologian, philosopher, sociologist, and university teacher. Born Jacques César Émile Ellul in Bordeaux, he held citizenship in France and wrote in French. He served as a teacher at the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux and the University of Montpellier. His intellectual work was influenced by Karl Marx, Bernard Charbonneau, Emmanuel Mounier, and Gilbert Simondon. Ellul was associated with the movements of degrowth and personalism, and his political ideology included libertarianism and Christian anarchism.

A member of the Combat resistance group, Ellul was recognized in the Righteous Among The Nations collection and received the Prix Européen de l'Essai Charles Veillon. He authored 103 works, including *Les classes sociales*, *À temps et à contretemps*, and *The meaning of the city*. His students included José Bové, Noël Mamère, Jean-Luc Nancy, and Paul-Marie Coûteaux. Ellul died in Pessac in 1994. His archives are held at Wheaton College and the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux.
