Nikolaus Lenau

Nikolaus Franz Niembsch von Strehlenau, known by the pseudonym Nikolaus Lenau, was a male poet, writer, and librettist born in Lenauheim in 1802. A citizen of the Austrian Empire and a member of the Austrians ethnic group, he wrote in German and was affiliated with the Catholic Church. He received his education at the University of Vienna.

Lenau’s field of work focused on poetry, with a recorded output including 75 works. Notable publications include *Deutscher Musenalmanach, erster Jahrgang*, *Ausgewählte Gedichte*, and *Savonarola*. His correspondence was published as *Nikolaus Lenaus Briefe an Emilie von Reinbeck und deren Gatten Georg von Reinbeck, 1832-1844*. He died in 1850.
