Owen Chamberlain

Owen Chamberlain was an American physicist and university teacher born in San Francisco in 1920. He received his education at Dartmouth College and the University of Chicago, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy under the supervision of Enrico Fermi. Chamberlain held academic positions at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. He was a participant in the Manhattan Project and worked in the field of physics.

Chamberlain was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, a recognition for which he was nominated. He also received a Guggenheim Fellowship. His professional affiliations included membership in the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Physical Society. He died in Berkeley in 2006 from natural causes, specifically Parkinson's disease, a medical condition he had suffered from.
