Robert Robinson

Robert Robinson (1886–1975) was a British chemist and university teacher whose field of work was organic chemistry. Born in Chesterfield, Rufford, he received his doctorate from the University of Manchester under the supervision of William Henry Perkin. He served as an employer at Magdalen College, the University of Liverpool, the University of Manchester, and the University of London. Robinson was also active as a mountaineer and chess player.

He was a member of the Royal Society, the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. His awards included the Copley Medal, the Faraday Lectureship Prize, and the Royal Medal. Robinson was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the Medal of Freedom. He died in Great Missenden and was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery.
