Sangaste () is a small borough () in Otepää Parish, Valga County, southern Estonia. Sangaste has a population of 228 (as of 1 January 2010).

==Name== Sangaste was attested in historical sources as Sangnitz in 1522, Sangnic in 1582, Sanngnitz in 1601, and Sangenitz in 1638 (variously referring to the manor or village), among other spellings. Lauri Kettunen suggested that the name is based on the noun ' (genitive ') 'bend, curvature', although in southern Estonia the word '' is more typical. Because place names ending in -ste often contain personal names, it is hypothesized that the toponym may be based a personal name such as Old Prussian Sange or Sangus''.
