De staat Zuid-Vietnam, officieel de Republiek Vietnam (Việt Nam Cộng Hòa in het Vietnamees), werd uitgeroepen op 26 oktober 1955 door president Ngo Dinh Diem, als tegenhanger van het communistische Noord-Vietnam.
