Staog

It was discovered in the autumn, October 20, of 1996, and the vulnerabilities that it exploited were fixed soon after. It has not been detected in the wild since its initial outbreak. The vulnerabilities exploited by Staog have been patched in all major Linux distributions, making the virus no longer a threat.

Staog war das erste bekannte Computervirus, das speziell für das Betriebssystem Linux geschrieben wurde. Das Virus wurde im Herbst 1996 entdeckt. Staog nutzte für seine Verbreitung drei Sicherheitslücken im Betriebssystem (Mount Buffer Overflow, Tip Buffer Overflow und ein Suidperl Exploit). Diese wurden kurze Zeit später geschlossen, seitdem ist das Virus nicht mehr in freier Wildbahn zu finden.
