Timișoara ( (?·i), en húngaro: Temesvár, en alemán: Temeswar, Temeschwar o Temeschburg, en serbio: Темишвар / Temišvar, en turco: Temeşvar) es una ciudad con estatus de municipiu ubicada en la región occidental de Rumania. Con una población de 319 279 habitantes en 2011, es la capital del distrito de Timiș. Todas las variantes del nombre derivan del río Timiș, conocido en la antigüedad romana como Tibisis o Tibiscus. Los suabos del Banato fueron el grupo étnico más grande de la ciudad, hasta que la ocupación por parte de la Unión Soviética comenzó una persecución, expulsión y deportación contra los alemanes étnicos que vivían en la ciudad y otras partes de la región. Actualmente es una ciudad multicultural con influyentes minorías, principalmente descendientes de los alemanes sobrevivientes, magiares y serbios, así como italianos, judíos y griegos.
