Upton Sinclair, né le 20 septembre 1878 à Baltimore et mort le 25 novembre 1968, est un écrivain américain, auteur prolifique et promoteur du socialisme aux États-Unis. En 1905, il accède à la célébrité avec son roman La Jungle, qui décrit les désillusions et la descente aux enfers d'une famille de migrants lituaniens travaillant dans les abattoirs de Chicago. La réaction du public aux pratiques dénoncées dans le roman conduit la même année au (en).
