Wallenius Lines

The company’s roots go back to the 1930s, when Olof Wallenius founded the business. His entrepreneurial spirit and drive for innovation laid the foundation for what is today a global operation with a strong focus on environmental responsibility, quality, and long-term development. In 2003 Wallenius Lines restructured its operations and it’s sister company Wallenius Marine was founded. Wallenius Marine took over responsibility for technical management, ship design, newbuilding projects. Oceanbird has completed the installation and successful sea trial of its first onboard prototype, Wing560, on Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s 230-metre car carrier Tirranna. The milestone marks an important step in taking wind propulsion from development and testing into commercial operation. Wallenius Lines’ acquisition of Wallenius SOL has now been approved by the relevant authorities. It was in mid-April that Wallenius Lines announced its intention to acquire SOL Group’s shares in Wallenius SOL. The deal will make Wallenius Lines the sole owner. Wallenius Lines has entered into an agreement to acquire SOL Group’s shares in Wallenius SOL, thereby becoming the sole owner of the company. The new ownership structure creates long-term stability, clarity and continuity for the continued development of Wallenius SOL as an enabler of sustainable, sea-based infrastructure in Northern Europe.
