Kleister sind Klebstoffe in Form eines wässrigen Quellungsproduktes aus Stärke oder organischen Celluloseethern. Meist handelt es sich um Methylzellulose. Sie bestehen zu 2–20 % aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffen und zu 80–98 % aus Wasser. Kleister binden durch Verdunstung des Wassers physikalisch ab; sie sind kalt härtend und einfach in der Verarbeitung.
