David Allan Coe (born in Akron, Ohio, on 6 September 1939; died 29 April 2026) was an American singer and songwriter remembered for being a prominent figure in the 1970s outlaw country movement, for his own hit songs, and for his compositions that became hits for other artists. Coe began his musical career after spending time in reform schools and prisons, initially gaining attention by busking in Nashville.
