Frederick Cook

Frederick Albert Cook was an American explorer, physician, surgeon, and mountaineer. Born in Hortonville in 1865, he was educated at Columbia University and the Grossman School of Medicine. His professional work encompassed medicine and mountaineering, and he participated in the Belgian Antarctic Expedition. He received the Order of Leopold for his contributions.

Cook authored several works, including *My Attainment of the Pole*, *Testament of Pir'Bub*, and *Inferno of Souls*. He also wrote *The Cocorp Seismic Reflection Traverse Across the Southern Appalachian* and *Journals of the Military Expedition of Major General John Sullivan*. His writings were published in English. He died in New Rochelle in 1940.
